Sant Feliu de Guíxols

To the south of Van der ValkHotel Barcarola is located in the traditional fishing village of Sant Feliu de Guíxols. Positioned in the coastal town of the Costa Brava, with beautiful long beaches. Despite being situated between the two most touristic cities of the Costa Brava, the village is relatively unknown. The residents are very proud of their village and love to share it with visitors. They organize various activities throughout the year for both residents and visitors. Every Sunday there is a typical weekly market on the seafront, and the traditional Catalan dance, called the Sardana, is regularly held on Sundays.

In addition to these activities, Sant Feliu de Guíxols is known for its Benedictine monastery. The monastery is located in the historic center of Sant Feliu de Guíxols. The monastery has several features that make it worth visiting, namely: the ancient Romanesque gate 'Porta Ferrada' and the church 'Parroquia Mare de Déu dels Angels'. An interesting fact about Sant Feliu de Guíxols is that the town was built around the monastery. The village grew from the 10th century. The monastery, the Romanesque gate, and the church genuinely exude a beautiful and fascinating culture.

Beautiful coast

In addition to the beautiful culture that Sant Feliu de Guíxols (the historical center) has, the town has a coast about 10 kilometers long. With several large sandy beaches, but also some smaller beaches. The large beach of the city, called Platja de Sant Feliu, is located right behind the port near the historical center. The fine sandy beach is protected from the wind due to its location and is about 500 meters long, perfect for families who want to spend a day at the beach.

The smaller coves are a bit more secluded, but they are beautiful. The more secluded coves are perfect for diving and snorkeling enthusiasts.
