Charly in the market... and suddenly the dance begins! 💃

Blog

Hello!

Sunday morning. No alarm, no rush, and today also no long walk.
After a delicious breakfast at the Hotel Barcarola, I decide to head to the market in Sant Feliu de Guíxols.
Because, let's be honest: is there anything better than spending a Sunday morning strolling leisurely through a lively Spanish market?

Strolling among the stalls
Every Sunday, the Plaça del Mercat and Passeig del Mar fill up with stalls and a very lively atmosphere.
Clothes, shoes, bags, flowers and, of course, all kinds of local products. I love browsing through the stalls, even though I really don't need anything at all.

Well… that's what I thought.

Because, before I realize it, I've already found something I love. 😉
And with the sea in the background and all that lively atmosphere around me, for me this is what truly means enjoying a Spanish Sunday.

And then the music starts…
As I continue walking towards the Jardins Juli Garreta, the park located next to the promenade, I start to hear music.
And there I discover something that seems so special about Catalonia: a group of people dancing the sardanatogether!
The sardana is a traditional Catalan dance that is danced in a circle. The dancers hold hands and follow the rhythm of a cobla, a traditional Catalan orchestra.
It may seem simple, but believe me, those steps need to be learned!
And you know what I like best? Young and old dance together and everyone seems to know exactly when to take the next step.

Everyone except me, of course.

For now, I prefer to watch from a safe spot. 😉

Charly's tip of the week

Visit the Sant Feliu de Guíxols market on a Sunday morning!

The market usually takes place every Sunday from 9:00 to 14:00. Take advantage of the visit to stroll along the promenade and have a coffee on one of its pleasant terraces.

And if you're lucky, you can also enjoy a traditional sardana in the Jardins Juli Garreta.

However, check the local schedule first, because sardanas are danced on announced dates and not every Sunday.

A wonderful way to discover authentic Catalan life!

See you soon!

Charly
