About us

Discover Hotel Barcarola

Van der Valk Hotel Barcarola is the only Spanish hotel in the renowned Van der Valk family group. In 1939, Martien and Rie van der Valk opened a restaurant in Voorschoten together. Through hard work and a welcoming, homely approach, their business became a success.

Largest hospitality group

In the post-war years they, with their 11 children, built several more restaurants. Today, their grandchildren and great-grandchildren have transformed the company into the largest hospitality chain in the Netherlands, with 56 establishments and 25 hotels worldwide.

Hospitality

The philosophy of hospitality pioneered by Martien and Rie remains the foundation of the successful “Van der Valk formula.” Their mindset and entrepreneurial spirit continue to inspire new generations of “Valks.”
